Grilled Cheese with Turkey Sausage and Swiss Cheese

Is there anything more practical and comforting than a grilled cheese sandwich? Tell us what you think of this recipe for our grilled cheese with homemade turkey sausage, onion marinade, avocado, and sliced Swiss cheese. The melted Swiss cheese pairs perfectly with the flavours of the turkey, the tartness of the onion marinade, and the creamy smoothness of the avocado. Ingredients

  • 454 g (1 lb) of turkey, minced
  • 2 tsp of Italian spices
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup of breadcrumbs
  • Half a red onion, in rings
  • 60 mL (1/4 cup) of cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp of sugar
  • 125 mL (1/2 cup) of water
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • Butter, to taste
  • 8 slices of sandwich bread
  • 16 slices of Armstrong Sliced Swiss Cheese
  • 1 avocado, peeled and cut into 8 slices

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix the minced turkey with the Italian spices, egg, and breadcrumbs.
  2. Using your hands, form 1 cm (1/2 in.)-thick patties on your work surface.
  3. In a pan over medium heat, cook the patties for 2 to 3 minutes per side. Set aside.
  4. In a microwave-safe bowl, mix the onion rings with the cider vinegar, sugar, water, and salt. Cook in the microwave for 2-1/2 minutes. Set aside.
  5. Butter the slices of bread. On half of them, place 2 slices of cheese, one turkey patty, a few onion rings, and 2 slices of avocado. Top with 2 more slices of cheese. Cover each sandwich half with another slice of bread.
  6. Cook each of the grilled cheese sandwiches in a pan over medium-high heat for 3 minutes per side. Serve.
