Croque-Monsieur with Herbs, Ham, and Swiss Cheese

The secret to a good croque-monsieur is choosing the right cheese. Try this croque-monsieur recipe with herbs, ham, and Swiss Cheese. Creamy on the inside and perfectly browned on the outside, our Swiss Cheese is the way to go. A special mention goes to the béchamel sauce with chives and dill. All-in-all, a quick-to-prepare dish that’s super delicious too!


  • 250 mL (1 cup) store-bought béchamel sauce
  • 30 mL (2 tbsp) chives, finely chopped
  • 15 mL (1 tbsp) fresh dill, chopped
  • 8 slices square white bread 
  • 8 slices cooked ham 
  • 8 slices Armstrong Swiss Cheese


  1. Preheat the oven to 200º C (400º F).
  2. In a bowl, combine the béchamel sauce, chives, and dill.
  3.  Spread 30 mL of the herbed béchamel sauce on 4 slices of bread.
  4.  Top each slice of bread with 2 slices of cooked ham and 1 slice of Armstrong Swiss Cheese.
  5. Spread béchamel sauce on the remaining slices of bread and top with slices of cheese. Place over the ham and cheese on the previously prepared slices of bread.
  6.  Place the croque-monsieurs on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Cook on the middle oven rack for 10 minutes.
