Miniature Croque-Monsieurs with Smoked Meat and Spicy Shredded Cheese

What could be better than a tasty classic? How about two tasty classics! You’ll love this recipe for Montreal Deli-style miniature croque-monsieurs. A perfect and unique combination of the city's local delis’ classic smoked meat and a delectable croque-monsieur. On the menu: rye bread (what else?), yellow mustard, and our Spicy Tex Mex Shredded Cheese—au gratin, of course! And to top it off? Sliced pickles! The perfect appetizer… and the perfect fun food.

Ingredients

  • 12 slices rye bread
  • 30 mL (2 tbsp) butter, at room temperature
  • 45 mL (3 tbsp) yellow mustard
  • 12 slices smoked meat
  • 3 dill pickles, sliced
  • 3 marinated roasted red peppers, cut into pieces
  • 100 g (1 cup) Armstrong Spicy Tex Mex Shredded Cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200o C (400o F).
  2. Butter the slices of bread on one side and toast them in a non-stick frying pan for a few minutes. Cut the bread to form two squares with each slice.
  3. Spread some mustard on each half-slice of bread. Top with a slice of smoked meat, a slice of pickle, and some marinated pepper, then cover with the other slice of bread.
  4. Repeat the steps for each miniature croque-monsieur.
  5. Sprinkle with Armstrong Spicy Tex Mex Shredded Cheese and cook in the oven until the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
